An early and continuing contributor to a wide spectrum of Open Source development projects, Mark is actively working on wide-scale deployments of Open Source technologies in a variety of environments, both private and public sector.
As CEO of Sirius Corporation, Mark has been instrumental in the adoption and roll out of Open Source at some of the largest corporations in Europe, including a growing number of companies running exclusively on Free Software end-to-end, server to desktop.
Mark was the founder of the Open Source Consortium (OSC) in the UK. The OSC comprises over 80 of the country's leading Open Source businesses. The OSC's purpose is to bring Open Source technologies to the UK Government and Public Sector.
A direct participant in some of the leading Enterprise Open Source projects, Mark is also a well known and authoritative writer and speaker on all aspects of the Open Source phenomenon.
Roger became a chartered account at 21. His career at Mobil, then the world's largest oil company, saw him become their Finance Controller for the UK, Assistant Financial Controller for Europe and Regional Finance Director, South-East Asia based in Singapore. After his retirement from Mobil in 1988, Roger founded Spurling & Co, a management consultant specialist,
Roger's experience is invaluable in providing financial leadership, planning and general supervision over all departmental activities and assisting in financial research, statistical analysis and budgeting.
Duncan spent five years at DMG World Media as a New Media and Communications Manager before joining Sirius to manage our Support and Consultancy teams.
His skills include Linux administration, deployment and configuration; a detailed understanding of internet infrastructure, software development and a high proficiency with web technologies.
Duncan is a member of the Debian Cyrus packaging team.
John trained as a biochemist at Birmingham University and successfully completed his PhD in the Biochemistry of Aging. He began his career as a Food Scientist with Unilever but quickly decided to become a secondary school teacher specialising in Sciences and ICT.
When he retired as a teacher, John joined Sirius as Head of Education in 2002. and has since become one of the most influential Open Source strategists in UK. In 2008 he helped to guide Sirius to become the only Becta / OGC accredited Systems Integrator specialising in open source software.
Apart from motorbikes, horses and his allotment John's main interest is helping schools and colleges save money through the adoption of FOSS.
John regularly contributes to Computerworld UK's 'Enterprise OS' blog.
Affan graduated from the Muhammad Ali Jinnah University in Islamabad with a BSc in Computer Science. He then held positions at Interactive Communications and Fusion Technologies as a senior Java EE developer before joining EnterpriseDB as their Principal Consultant, EMEA. Affan is probably best known for being the lead architect for EnterpriseDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server.
Affan has been a member of the PostgreSQL community since 2006 and has deep-level expertise in complex transaction consistency issues, full text search, replication, SQL and PL optimisation, server tuning and high availability.
Chris first worked for Sirius whilst studying Computer Science and Physics at the University of Liverpool. He built the winning desktop builds and Birmingham Central Libraries trials of the Linux desktop.
Before joining Sirius full time, Chris worked as a senior system administrator at IBM for three years.
Chris has been involved with the KDE project since 2001, and has represented the project at Linux trade shows such as the LinuxExpo at Olympia.
Educated at the University of Southampton with a MEng in Computer Science, Mark has a deep knowledge of enterprise databases, network, security, mail and directory services technologies.
Before joining Sirius, Mark was the principal architect of InfoMapper, an interactive on-line mapping application and resource repository for schools.
Mark is particularly well known for his work as a developer and current Windows binary maintainer for the PostGIS geo-spatial extension to the PostgreSQL database.
