What is BOC Linde?

www.boc.com

The BOC Group was the official name of the multinational industrial gas company more commonly known as BOC, and now a part of The Linde Group. In September 2004, BOC had over 30,000 employees on six continents, with sales of over £4.6 billion.

Business Situation

BOC Linde required a knowledge capture tool, available to all users, to be able to share information easily and gain immediate feedback.

The Solution

BOC Linde's Information Management department trialled a number of Wiki engines and found the most comfortable fit was MediaWiki. The popular 'Wiki' project provides a simple user interface for both contributing and tracking information. Its global popularity also helps to ensure an extensive support and development infrastructure.

Using the 'Wiki' approach to knowledge management has improved collaboration amongst geographically dispersed groups within BOC. In fact it's been so well received that it's becoming an integral part of their knowledge capture and transfer processes for outsourcing and in-sourcing.

MediaWiki is written in PHP and MySQL. Neither was part of BOC's approved technology architecture and therefore not supported by our delivery organisation. Sirius Corporation provide BOC with PHP and MySQL support which has allowed them to bring the BOC Wiki into production.

The Benefits
