What is Usborne Books at Home?

www.usbornebooksathome.com

Usborne Books at Home is the home business division of Usborne Publishing, one of the largest producers of children's books in the world. Usborne's home-based Organisers sell the entire range of Usborne books directly to friends, families, playgroups, schools and libraries. These sales are recorded and managed using multi-level marketing (MLM) software from Fourfront.

Business Situtation

Fourfront chose to develop their MLM web applications on the popular LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). But without in-house Linux or Open Source technical skills, Usborne Books needed professional technical support to help manage this hosting environment.

In the long-term Usborne Books planned to outsource the management of their online systems for even greater robustness and to lower costs.

The Solution

Sirius undertook remedial configuration work on an inherented Red Hat Linux-based application stack in Oxford. Working closely with the application provider we significantly improved the availability and performance of Usborne's online services.

From 2008 onwards, Usborne Book's online systems will migrate to our fully managed datacentre in RedBus Telecity, Docklands.

The Benefits

  • Professionally managed application hosting gives peace of mind
  • PCI compliant - secured online transactions
  • High availability assured
  • Significantly reduced IT spend
  • Faster, more stable performance
