Further evidence emerged today of Open Source software's move from its traditional stronghold, network infrastructures, into the mission-critical application space. Sirius Corporation, leading European Open Source services provider, has been charged with supporting PostgreSQL for global datawarehouse Pindar Set, in the UK and US.
Sirius Corporation's expert knowledge of the PostgreSQL database and middleware platform JBoss was crucial in its selection by Pindar Set.
Until now the lack of truly capable 24/7 support has discouraged organisations from migrating to PostgreSQL from proprietary databases. Sirius Corporation has addressed this concern.
Mark Taylor, CEO of Sirius Corporation said: "Enterprise Open Source is penetrating deep into the mainstream. Linux is already established as the new choice for enterprise infrastructure. We are now moving up the stack into business critical applications."
Simon Riggs, PostgreSQL lead in the UK said: "Free PostgreSQL has the speed, compatibility and sophisticated features of proprietary databases. Enterprise-level support with global coverage will only help to increase the pace of its adoption."
